MALLORY BAXLEY // ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

I SEARCH FOR MOVEMENT’S CAPACITY TO COMMUNICATE THE COMPLEXITIES AND NUANCES OF THE FEMININE BEING, THROUGH VARIED PERSPECTIVES AND CONTEXTS.  I AM A CREATOR OF DANCE AND A FACILITATOR OF MOVEMENT, ANALYZING CANDID EXCHANGE THROUGH ORGANIC MOTION AND EXPRESSION, AS IT IS EXPRESSED THROUGH A FEMININE LENS.

Mallory takes lead on developing the Zoetic’s choreographic and film works, as well as the company’s community dance education programs, leading classes, workshops and residencies throughout Georgia and the metro-Atlanta area. Her dance and film work have been shown at various venues in Georgia, as well as San Francisco, Chicago and Detroit.

Mallory is a native of Georgia. She graduated with honors from the University of Georgia with a BFA in Dance, where she gained extensive training in aerial dance as a member of CORE Concert Dance Company, and has travelled internationally to train in Liverpool and London.

Mallory’s history with Zoetic begins during her time as a student, training under one of Zoetic’s original members, Ellen Tshudy. Mallory began her professional journey with Zoetic as an emerging dancer, choreographer and filmmaker in Atlanta in 2010. She was company member of Zoetic for 4 years before the role of Artistic Director was passed down to her by Zoetic founder, Melanie Blanchard in 2015. She has worked and collaborated with various artists from Atlanta including Cherrise Wakeham, Atlanta Dance Collective, Sakinah LeStage, Corian Ellisor and many more, as well as artists from NY and LA including filmmaker Lily Baldwin and choreographer Christina Noel Reaves and Brooklyn dance collective, The Lovelies.

Mallory is passionate about the work and mission of Zoetic, and has made it her goal to continue the legacy of Zoetic, exploring the depths of movement and creativity. Through the work of Zoetic, Mallory strives to contribute to her community’s cultural and artistic landscape as a strong, empowered female leader in dance and the arts.
